Dinh Thai is an Asian American award-winning writer/director by way of commercial directing. Born in Vietnam, fled to France, and finally settled in Los Angeles, the 80s and 90s nurtured a cultural mix that strongly informs Dinh’s filmic approach and aesthetic. He brings a youthful, multicultural viewpoint to his storytelling. His work blends visual style with realism, focusing on comedy and drama with strong musical influences.
Dinh’s narrative work has been featured on HBO, Cinemax, Amazon, Short of the Week, and Omeleto. Specifically, MONDAY, a short film he wrote and directed has garnered 50+ festival awards, including first place in the inaugural HBO Asian Pacific American Visionaries competition, Outstanding Director, Outstanding Actor, and Next Generation Filmmaker Award at the prestigious NBCU Shorts Festival, Best Direction at the New York Television Festival and The One Screen Festival, Best Short Film at CATALYST, and recognized as Best New Filmmaker of the Year by NFMLA.
Along with being an alumnus of the Disney TV Director Program, Ryan Murphy's Half-Initiative, and NBC’s Emerging Director Program, Dinh has gone on to direct TV episodes of Wu-Tang: An American Saga (Hulu), Warrior (HBOMax), New Amsterdam (NBC), The Good Doctor (ABC), In The Dark (CW), American Born Chinese (Disney+, DGA Nomination), Under The Bridge (Hulu), and the 2-part season finale of Death and Other Details (Hulu). He has co-written and directed AZNBBGRL, a Vietnamese American pilot for Freeform.
